Deep dive with East London Foundation Trust

This session took place in July 2022 and session brought together four members of the board from East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) to share perspectives and the roles they play in embedding and progressing the organisation's approach to improvement.  

In this one-hour session, the panel reflected on:

  • the relevance of improvement in meeting today's problems
  • the mindset shift needed
  • the unitary board dimension and its role in building belief, collective leadership, and embedded improvement responsibilities across all staff levels
  • the value of co-production with users and teams
    the contribution improvement can make to current system challenges as a tried and tested approach to solving complex problems.


The discussion included responses to questions on:

  • making the business case for significant improvement infrastructure
  • how an embedded improvement approach helps to ensure robust prioritisation of effort and improvement across the trust
  • how performance management mechanisms can embed and reinforce a QI culture
  • reframing the links between finance and improvement.
