Far too many children waiting far too long for vital mental health services

Responding to a new report from the Children's Commissioner for England regarding Children and Young People's Mental Health Services in England in 2022-23, the deputy chief executive of NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery said:

"
These figures once again confirm what trust leaders already know: far too many children are waiting far too long for vital mental health services.

"Leaders across the NHS are desperate to give children and young people the mental health support they need but with record-high demand continuing to outstrip capacity, this is proving increasingly challenging.

"Staffing shortages and long-standing under-investment in mental health settings is making a tough job even tougher.

"It's critical that we tackle the specific and complex pressures mental health services face.

"We need to see sustained government support for mental health including funding which is vital to provide high-quality care in the right settings for patients."
