The provider licence - an important step in the new NHS

Commenting on Monitor’s new provider licence

Chris Hopson, Chief Executive of the FTN said:

“Monitor’s creation of a provider licence is an important step in the new NHS landscape. It’s not often that the regulated praise the regulator but we’d like to acknowledge the time and effort Monitor has taken to listen carefully to the views of public providers and shape the licence accordingly.

“The reality is that none of us will really know how effective the new licencing regime will be until it’s been working for a year. That’s why we particularly welcome Monitor’s commitment to review the licence after a year of operation.

“We will want to look at whether the licence as a whole, and the Commissioner Requested Service regime in particular, is adding a disproportionate regulatory burden onto Foundation Trusts, which is our main concern with the final proposals”
